Western Power Distribution (formerly South Wales Electricity) Annual Report

These are just some of the published savings directly attributable to the use of DINIS in electricity distribution companies. Furthermore, savings like these are being realized year on year by over 30 companies throughout Europe (including most of the Regional Electricity Companies in the UK), North America, Australia and Asia.

The electricity supply industry in many countries is undergoing a period of immense change. New regulatory frameworks are being proposed throughout the world and often result in increasing pressures on efficiency and customer service. The drive for efficiency becomes even more important given the increasing interest in electricity distribution companies from foreign investors. The challenge facing utility managers today has never been greater.

The good news is there are tools available that allow intelligent decisions on the best use and structure of the network. The problem is there are a number of network analysis packages on the market today. However, one of the most important factors in selecting the best network analysis tool for the business is the ability of the software to integrate with other applications and data sources.

Many of today's network packages offer excellent functionality and analysis features but are often limited by the fact that they are stand‑alone programs. DINIS provides  a sophisticated, state‑of‑the‑art electrical network analysis workstation that is comprehensive, yet easy to use. More importantly DINIS can utilize existing database information from other corporate systems and has already been integrated to many different systems in electricity utilities throughout the world.

By using the strength of the DINIS analysis software integrated with control room systems, which monitor and control what is happening on the network 24hr/day, electrical engineers can begin to model and understand how the network actually behaves under real operating conditions. With this information they will then be able to determine load demands based on day/night/summer/winter conditions, begin to model the network to predict faults, and perform network reliability analysis. All these capabilities will save $Ms in operational efficiencies as well as improve electricity supply reliability to millions of customers.

DINIS Main FeaturesDINIS Modules

DINIS allows engineers to capture and store network details in digital form and use a simple graphical interface for planning, analysis and modeling. It is geographically based, overlaying a representation of the supply network onto area maps, but also able to switch into schematic representation when complex situations demand it.

DINIS may be used on its own or linked to other network support and asset management systems. The core system requires a minimum of tailoring to fit any specific network analysis requirement and may be integrated with existing mapping systems thus reducing implementation times.

DINIS enables entire networks to be displayed, colour coded by voltage and represented in both geographic and schematic form, with one workstation holding over 100,000 lines and nodes.

DINIS provides fast answers to “what-if” questions for managing overloads and underloads, minimizing losses and helping to optimize investment plans.

DINIS is the network analysis for grown ups ! Networks covering 37 km sqr (including map backgrounds), 3000 lines and nodes, 600 transformers are typical model sizes for DINIS.
